Fat Dissolving Injections
Fat-dissolving injections are often described as “lunchtime liposuction.” We are delighted to offer our patients this treatment. These injections are an effective way to eliminate stubborn fatty deposits that resist diet and exercise. Extracting stubborn pockets of unwanted fat has never been easier with the help of modern science.
The treatment involves injecting a fat-dissolving solution directly into the subcutaneous fat layer. The active ingredient disrupts the fat cell membranes, causing the cells to break down. Your body then naturally clears away the disrupted fat cells over the following weeks . The procedure is minimally invasive and typically requires no downtime, allowing you to return to normal activities immediately.
Results are not immediate. Visible changes usually build gradually over 4 to 8 weeks after each session as your body clears the treated fat . Most people need a course of 2 to 6 sessions, spaced roughly 3 to 4 weeks apart, depending on the size and density of the area being treated . Once destroyed, the treated fat cells do not regenerate, so results in that specific area are considered long-lasting, provided your overall weight remains stable.
Common side effects include swelling, redness, pain, and bruising at the injection site; these are typically temporary. More serious risks exist, particularly if the product is injected incorrectly or by an inadequately trained practitioner. These can include nodule formation (lumps under the skin), skin necrosis, and infection. Nodule rates have been reported as high as 42% in some series, with the risk closely correlated to practitioner experience. It is essential that treatment is carried out by a qualified, trained professional with a thorough understanding of facial and body anatomy.
In the UK, fat-dissolving injections are not currently subject to the same strict prescription-only regulations as botulinum toxin, meaning practitioner quality varies. You should always verify that your injector has appropriate medical qualifications and experience, and that the product used is legitimate and properly sourced. Fat-dissolving injections are not a weight-loss treatment and are not suitable for everyone—a face-to-face consultation is essential to determine whether this treatment is right for you.

Fat Dissolving Injections FAQs
An aesthetic practitioner injects the solution containing a fat-digesting enzyme (phosphatidylcholine) into the tissue’s localised far deposits. The fat cells in the areas are then dissolved, and the fat cells are destroyed permanently. The contents of the fat cells are then released and eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system. Does Aqualyx hurt? Patients report minimal discomfort during the treatment. We add lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to the Aqualyx® solution so that the two are injected together. This should minimise discomfort during the procedure.
Results can be fast; nevertheless, it is recommended to have two and five sessions to see a significant effect. Younger patients are more likely to see results after a more extended period of time due to the method Aqualyx® tackles the fat cells.
Your suitability for treatment will be assessed during your free consultation with your aesthetic practitioner before your treatment. Generally, the majority of patients between 18 and 60 years old are suitable for treatment. Aqualyx® is not a suitable treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding period. It is also contraindicated for patients with diabetes, history including anaphylactic reactions and/or severe allergies, autoimmune diseases, acute or chronic skin diseases in the affected area, other severe organic diseases and liver/kidney disease.
Do not apply any cosmetics to the treated area within 12 hours and avoid direct sources of heat and radiation (UV radiation, sunlight and sauna etc). We recommend you avoid any strenuous exercise for 7 days.
Patients report minimal discomfort during the treatment. We add lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, to the Aqualyx® solution so that the two are injected together. This should minimise discomfort during the procedure.
You will notice a distinct improvement in fat reduction from the first session. However, touch-up treatments may be needed to achieve and maintain the desired effect.
On average, 3-4 treatments at 4-6 weekly intervals are required to achieve the desired result.
